We invite scholars and doctoral students who work in and on South Asia to take part in this event on publishing.  In this discussion, we will hear briefly from the two editors (editor of a book series based in Edinburgh and editor of Himal South Asia, based out of Colombo) on publishing scholarship in and on South Asia. After their presentations, there will be an opportunity to ask questions followed by moderated discussion.

Speaker bios:

Roman Gautam is a journalist with 14 years of experience as a magazine editor in India, Nepal and Sri Lanka, and is presently the Editor of Himal Southasian, a regional review magazine of politics and culture. Originally from Kathmandu, he was earlier the Senior Editor at The Caravan, an India-based magazine of narrative and investigative journalism.

Crispin Bates is a Professor of Modern and Contemporary South Asian History at the University of Edinburgh, and an editor (together with Arko Longkumer and Jeevan R Sharma) of Routledge/Edinburgh South Asian Studies Series. Between 2003-2015, he was the Director of Centre for South Asian Studies at the University of Edinburgh.

Hephzibah Israel (Senior Lecturer in Translation Studies at the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures at the University of Edinburgh) specialises in studying the intersections between translation, religion, history, and postcolonial studies, and retains a strong interest in South Asian literary and translation cultures and contribute to teaching team-taught courses offered by the Centre for South Asian Studies, University of Edinburgh.
