Salla Sariola is currently working as a senior research fellow in a two-year ESRC-DfId funded project entitled 'Biomedical and Health Experimentation in South Asia: critical perspectives on collaboration, governance and competition' at University of Durham. Her research focuses on clinical trials in South Asia and the role of international research collaborations in shaping existing practices in health care and reserach. The current research has grown out of 'International Science and Bioethics Collaboration', a project between 9 anthropologists in Durham, Sussex and Cambridge.

Salla's research interests include also gender and sexuality, and she is the author of 'Gender and Sexuality in India: selling sex in Chennai' (Routledge, Edinburgh South Asian Studies Series) which is an ethnography of sex work in Chennai, and a critique of international HIV prevention policies.
