Abstract

In 2016, Xulhaz Mannan, a Bangladeshi gay rights activist and the founder of the first LGBT magazine in the country was murdered. Two years earlier, Dhaka, the capital had its first Hijra (third gendered) pride march. At the heart of this paper is an exploration of the anomaly of these two monumental events, ones which explores the transformative issues of class, gender, sexuality and politics against a global presence.
