We welcome you to the community of South Asian Studies in Edinburgh. We are the major UK Centre focussed on the affairs of the countries of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka outside the South-East of England – and in some areas we have more expertise than can be found even there.
Whatever the topic, staff at the University of Edinburgh work with the students to make the study of South Asia come alive and be relevant to our lives and our world. In addition to our weekly seminar (offering graduate students, our own staff, and leading figures from across the world the opportunity to be heard in Edinburgh) we also hep to organise workshops and conferences on topical themes.
Our graduates come from and follow many different paths but feel at home while attached to the Centre. Our excellent reputation as a place to study, research and teach depends on all the current members – whether staff, undergraduate or post-graduate students – of our academic community. We hope you will be one of them.
